Discipleship at Hope
We believe that God is calling us to be a people who not only enjoy fellowship, but to be disciples, following Jesus together and being transformed into his likeness.
Three things are central to how we do that.
Be Relational:
Jesus discipled his followers by being close and involved in their lives. Therefore, we believe that discipleship happens best in the context of relationships. While we offer a variety of ‘programmes’ to grow faith, they are only a platform for connection to happen between people to spur one another on in faith.
Hebrews 10:24 “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
2. Pursue Holiness:
At Hope Presbyterian one of our core values is “Holiness is our Pursuit”. We believe that God is calling us to not only enjoy fellowship together, but to grow in holiness through the Holy Spirit’s transforming work in our lives. That means we commit to courageous, authentic, and adventurous faith. We display Christ-like attitudes in our interactions, and we commit to growing in maturity.
Romans 12:1 “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
3. Be Missional:
Jesus calls his disciples to be ‘disciple making disciples.’ To be engaged in a dual process of growing and helping others to grow. Thankfully Jesus doesn’t require us to be perfect before we start journeying with others. Therefore, regardless of where we are in our faith we can support and walk with others to discover and grow in their faith.
Matthew 28:19-20 - Jesus said to his disciples, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
So, whether you have known Jesus for 6 months, 6 years or 60 years, we want to resource and equip you to build a strong foundation of faith, to know and understand what you believe, and to have the confidence to share it with others!
We have a number of ways to do that, so please reach out and we would love to chat to you about it.
